The Venezuelan artist living in Spain, Oly Díaz Torres, bases her work on pictorial abstraction. Playing sometimes with the collage of her own painted and trimmed canvas. An explosion of color and strength that attracts the spectator to an inner journey. Under an abstract appearance, the work of Oly Díaz hides a series of symbols and icons that tell us about identity and society. Multicolor spots that become flags and maps, representing the multiple challenges which our society faces today. Changes of direction, of policies, of economy … represented through globalization brush-strokes. A new reality full of color, where some tones and thoughts embrace while others collide and repel each other. But the work of Oly Díaz also travels from global to personal.
a lifelong fascination
This society is made up of individuals and from each one of them, ideas, and memories, smells and colors flow. Her paintings look into what makes us unique and equal, individual and collective. Shapes and colors composed of feelings, desires and thoughts. A complex colorful grid built layer by layer, instant by instant. Where all of the previous adds and shapes the final result. Artistic reflection of what has been lived moment by moment, approaching the shape in which memory articulates. In this way, her works involve a brush-stroke over a previous one or fragments of old works that shape new ones, both processes bring us closer to the union of the past with the present. Pieces that recompose, repaint and create a new instant, a new thought.
My story
Oly Díaz Torres studied at Armando Reveron Institute of Advanced Plastic Arts Studies in Caracas, Venezuela. She also studied in England, at the Chelsea College of Art & Design and at the Central Saint Martins College of Art, where she got a Master in Fine Arts in mixed media. Her works have been exhibited in many galleries, museums and cultural institutions in Venezuela, England, the United States and SwitzerlandWith a decade of experience in curation and a passion for untold stories, Rina founded this platform to bridge the gap between art and its audience. We untangle the vibrant threads that connect creativity, culture, and the human condition, offering fresh perspectives for the curious mind.
